THE CHURCH SPEAKS OUT ...   BACKING CHRISTIAN AID

Picture
Churches in Wales need to re-adopt the charity Christian Aid as their own development arm, said  Lord Williams of Oystermouth speaking at the recent meeting of the Govening Body of the Church in Wales. The former Archbishop of Canterbury said the charity was set up by churches 70 years ago to assist refugees in the aftermath of WW2 and it still needed their support as it faced similar challenges today.

He warned that fund-raising for Christian Aid continued to fall each year and stressed that it had to stay in tune with the aspirations and prayers of the churches at the grassroots which support it. He thanked churches for all their dedicated fund-raising work over the years. Lord Williams also outlined the charity’s three priorities: gender injustice; climate change; and tax transparency.

Churches across Wales will be marking Christian Aid week on May 15-21.

We will be holding our CURRY & QUIZ EVENING as part of our Christian Aid collection there will also be the usual envelopes. The 4pm After School Group are making a Christian Aid pillar box for the envelopes to be ‘posted’ in Church!

Take action for the climate this Christian Aid Week
Love every neighbour - act now! As the global climate changes, the people of Bangladesh are likely to suffer more than most.  Rains are expected to become  ever more intense, leading to more severe flooding. To help protect communities in Bangladesh and across the world far into the future, we need to see real action to combat climate change.

Jesus calls us to love our neighbour as ourselves, and not just the ones next door or at the end of the street. Christian Aid Week unites over 20,000 churches to put this love in to action. Through giving, praying and sending an Email - more details about the Email campaign next week
