The branch attached to St. Peter’s Church is a small, but committed group who seek to support and put into action the work of the Mothers’ Union in this parish, deanery and diocese.
What is Mothers’ Union :-
Mothers’ Union is a worldwide Christian organisation concerned with all that strengthens and preserves family life.
The Aim and Purpose is to show Christian faith in action by working within communities to support
all kinds of families.
Members do this by working towards Five objectives :
Mothers’ Union Today:
As a voluntary organisation Mothers’ Union offers friendship, care and unconditional love to thousands of women and men throughout the world – a lifeline for many families. It is a praying, teaching and caring organisation.
Mothers’ Union works through local people from parenting groups, prison ministry and community health education to relief and development programmes to create lasting change in families and therefore communities.
Some of the Projects and Schemes Mothers’ Union in the Llandaff Diocese are involved in:-
The Mothers’ Union owns a caravan ‘Llandaff Breakaway’ at Trecco Bay, Porthcawl and gives holidays to families in need through the Away from It All scheme.
Mothers’ Union members work in Parc Prison in Bridgend - playing with children, offer refreshments and a listening ear to prisoners relatives all this helps to make the visits less stressful on the families.
Mothers’ Union campaign against the commercialisation and sexualisation of children through the Bye Buy Childhood campaign - letting children be children. MU Postcard Campaign Targets OFCOM was launched at the Senedd. Plans are now being made to begin a pilot scheme to introduce to parents of children in Church Primary Schools the ‘Labelled for Life.’ resource which is a further continuation of the Bye Buy Childhood campaign.
Prayer sustains and strengthens all Mothers’ Union work - We hold two Retreats a year at Llangasty Retreat House, an Annual Day of Prayer, take part in the 24/7 Wave of Prayer around the world, use the Worldwide Prayer Diary which is available for members to use with their midday prayers.
Membership is open to all who have been baptised in the name of the Trinity and support the Aims and Objectives.
The members of the branch here at St. Peter’s join together on the first Monday of the month to attend the 7pm Eucharist followed by a short meeting.
